When I arrived, to my surprise, a Piper Archer II had just landed and way taxiing back to the hangers.

Buena Vista University (BVU)’s 2015 senior class has recently decided the gift they are rewarding the university with upon departure. The Senior Class Campaign is an annual event where the entire senior class takes part in providing the university with a gift in a variety of regions. Past gifts have included sidewalk and seating (Class of 2014), firepit and seating (Class of 2013), deck by university cover (2012), and even endowed scholarships dating back to 1992.

Kristie Spotts, alum networking coordinator, selected five senior class members for the Senior Campaign Committee: Natalie Bellairs, Aaron Burns, Stephanie Hayden, Greg Sibenaller, and Krystal Schulte. The group met around three to four times before they were able to come up with a final idea for the project.

“For this year, we set a class goal of raising $2,500 with 100% participation from the senior class members,” Bellairs said, “This will enable us to put the funds towards updating the recreational area behind the suites, including a patio, another grill, and fixing the sand volleyball court.”

“We talked about adding a basketball court behind McCorkle, remodeling the underground, making additions to the suites (washers/dryers, drinking fountains, vending machines), and adding a sidewalk from constitution down the hill,” Bellairs said.

The group of five students decided to choose a gift that would both benefit and appeal to the 2015 senior class.

“We discussed that the area was in need of some updates and possible modifications, specifically the sand in the volleyball court,” Bellairs said, “By adding another grill and patio area, we hope to make the location more entertaining and appealing for students.”

All donations of $25 or more will be matched by Bernie Saggau, Class of 1949 and current BVU Trustee.
