According to the American Civil Liberties Union there are 24 cases that include rap lyrics being used as evidence to convict rap artists. It has become the norm to hear lyrics about drugs and violence in rap music and it has been accepted by most listeners. Accusers put forth lyrics during trials against rappers attempting to prove a parallel between their lyrics and the crime they were being tried for. According to Complex Magazine, Kodak Black, Meek Mill, YG, and many other artists have had their lyrics used in court against them attempting to prove a violent history. Using lyrics in court cases has happened to rap artists due to the wide belief that rap lyrics are an interpretation of reality, according to a Judge in New Jersey.
