No matter where you go, people look up to celebrities. Sometimes it’s a good thing, and sometimes it’s just crazy. Don’t get me wrong; feel free to express yourself. But really, what are we doing?
Take for example, Lady Gaga’s new fragrance line, “Fame.” It’s a perfume that is colored black but is clear when you spray it. I honestly think that’s pretty cool, but the real reason we buy perfume is for its scent. You ask the question: What does “Fame” smell like? According to Lady Gaga, her new perfume was supposed to smell like “blood and semen.” However, the scent turned out to be more like an “expensive hooker.” She wants it to be the mating call in a bottle sold in stores everywhere. The reason behind this so-called incredible new fragrance is that Lady Gaga wants to smell “like a slut” but in a good way. Yep, not buying it now, but if you would like to, no one is holding you back. Personally, if you wanted to smell like a slut for a lower price, you should just go to an alley or a bar.
To top all of this off, at the launch party, Lady Gaga was encased in a life size version of her perfume bottle. Once again, that idea sounds pretty cool. Inside the bottle, Lady Gaga got a new tattoo on the back of her neck so everyone could see this being done. Was that really necessary? Sure, if you want to get a tattoo, that’s your decision; there’s nothing wrong with that. But come on! It wasn’t necessary!
I am not ranting about Lady Gaga; she’s her own person and has the freedom to do whatever she wants because she “was born that way”, but isn’t there a limit to being too extreme every once and a while? The perfume launch party seems like it was more of a chance for Lady Gaga to show, once again, how “out there” she could be, instead of focusing on her product. But then again, if people know she’s going to do something crazy, they are bound to show up and buy whatever she’s selling. In all actuality, it’s a pretty smart business move. You just give up part of yourself for the whole world to see.
Whatever happened to having an ordinary launch party or event where nothing super crazy happened? There are better ways to get media attention than getting a tattoo on your neck in front of everyone. To get noticed nowadays, people have to be the most outrageous as possible. In my opinion, if you have to go through all that trouble, is it really worth the end result?
