The Buena Vista University football team opened up the year against UW-Platteville on Sept. 1st and have not played a home game since.
The Beavers (0-4, 0-1 IIAC) will be playing Wartburg (2-2, 0-1 IIAC) this Saturday in Storm Lake for the first time in over a month. The Beavers have had three straight road games and one bye week.
What is most difficult about this long road stretch is building the team’s unity, which is done early on in the season. The road trips not only affect the players individually, but it affects what the coaches are trying to do with the team.
“Consistency is what we are talking about,” Head Football Coach Jay Anderson said after the Beavers were blanked last Saturday by the Kohwaks 51-0. The Beavers accounted for only 242 total yards of offense on 60 plays.
Senior offensive lineman Michael Wiegmann claims that the hardest part about this football season is keeping up on academics.
“The time it takes to do the homework and get all the studying in is hard because of practice,” Wiegmann said.
Freshman offensive lineman Camron Knobbe gives an opposing thought by stating that it has given him the time to be more productive.
“It gives me more time to actually sit down and do my homework with less distractions,” Knobbe said.
The Beavers now have two home games in a row. This Saturday against the Knights and the following Saturday against Central College, which is Homecoming weekend.
