Insanity trend impacts BVU students

A new trend hitting the market in recent years is the workout video set called Insanity. It is a 60-day workout for anyone who is looking to get in shape or stay in shape in the comfort of his or her own home.

Insanity comes with a set of 10 different DVDs that target different areas of the body for best results. Each workout lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. What makes Insanity different from all of the other workout DVD sets is that it provides an extremely intense workout with short periods of rest that keep the person working out going for the whole session, allowing them to burn at least 1000 calories.

One distinguishing feature of Insanity is the fact that no other equipment is needed. As long as one has the DVDs and space to work out, nothing else is needed to get the results wanted.

Insanity is completely different than most workouts I have done in the past. It definitely gets you into a different kind of shape. I like that we can do the workout pretty much anywhere because no equipment is needed, just yourself and definitely some water!” senior Alexa Guessford said.

The different intervals of workouts include plyometric drills along with different exercises targeting strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves. Each workout is an alternation between aerobic and anaerobic moves. The goal of this product is to provide its users with maximum results in 60 days.

“It targets muscles in my body that I never really knew existed. When your whole body hurts the next day, you know it was a worthwhile exercise,” senior Mallory Todd said.

A group of young women on Buena Vista University’s (BVU) campus have decided to make the work out a group activity to provide more motivation for them. Senior Bailey Schafbuch, who does Insanity with a group of friends, commented on how it’s beneficial to make it a group activity.

Insanity is so great because it’s a workout that everyone can do together. I know it helps actually get my work out in every day because I know there are two other girls going with me. The accountability it provides really does help,” Schafbuch said.

“The accountability factor is huge. When I work out alone, it’s much easier for me to skip a day because I’m busy or for some other reason, but with two other people planning on me being there, there is no way I can stand them up,” Guessford said.

The price of Insanity is a monthly fee of $39.95 for three months plus shipping and handling. They have a satisfaction guarantee, so if someone doesn’t see results, they will get a full refund of their money back. The 10 DVDs also come with a nutrition plan, a fitness guide, a workout calendar, and free online support tools.
