Seth Woodson, sophomore track and field athlete at Buena Vista University (BVU), has been hard at work this season, winning several events and breaking school records.
Not only is Woodson The Tack’s “Who’s Who in Beaver Sports” athlete this week, he also received the honor of being the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) performer of the week for the week of Feb. 4, 2013. He was recognized for his performance at the Dennis Young Classic in Storm Lake on Feb. 2. During the classic, Woodson set the school record in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:21.9. The previous record was set in 2003. During that same meet, Woodson participated in the 4×200 meter relay and took first place, currently holding the fourth-fastest time in the IIAC.
Woodson stays busy by competing during both the indoor and outdoor seasons of track and field but prefers the outdoor season because it is easier on his body. Woodson’s most recent victory was in the 800 meter run this past Saturday at Grinnell College. He won the event with a time of 1:57.31.
“Being close with all the runners and running with my brother are probably my favorite things,” Woodson said about being on the team.
When asked what goals he had for the season, Woodsen responded, “I’m looking to improve all my times and break Coach Brennan’s record in the 800.” He also wants to qualify for nationals and take the conference title in more than one event this year. He is the previous outdoor conference champion in the 800 meter run.
