Choir faces weather trouble on annual tour

This past weekend, Feb. 22 through 24, 43 members of the Buena Vista University (BVU) Choir went to Denver for their annual tour. The weekend was to be composed of three performances: two high schools and the last at the University Park United Methodist Church. However, due to inclement weather that Denver experienced, the high schools were closed and the performance at the church had to be canceled because the bus company wanted to get everyone out before the really bad weather hit on Sunday.

Nevertheless, the BVU Choir did learn from this experience. They attended a clinic taught by a graduate professor at the University of Denver. BVU senior Gwen Walton found the clinic beneficial.

“My favorite part of the trip was the clinic with a graduate professor from the University of Denver. She was very enthusiastic and had some great insights to help us improve our sound and style,” Walton said.

Even though there wasn’t much singing done on the trip, the students were still able to enjoy themselves.

Not only did the students get to learn something new about performing, there was plenty of time to bond as a group. Spending over 20 hours together allowed the 43 individuals to get to know one another better and have fun doing it.

“I also loved the bonding going on while we were riding a bus for over 20 hours throughout the weekend,” Walton said.

Many of the students agreed with her; the time spent together was nice, but at the end, they were all happy to get back to campus safely, from what turned out to be a very exciting trip.

Senior Sarah Chandler emphasized the bonding as big benefit.

“This trip brought me closer together to some people that I had not had as much interaction with before. We were on the bus for hours, so I got to know people,” Chandler said.

Due to the abundance of free time, students decided to use this time to explore the city of Denver and check out some local sites.

“It is such a beautiful city and has a lot to do. A group of us decided to check out the Hard Rock Café and the local mall, the Pavillion,” Junior Melanie Boyson said.
