Grady Gallagher | Blogger
Well today is that day. I’m sure most have already heard, thanks to Facebook or Twitter. But today is that special day, to me anyways. All my avid readers (respect) probably noticed that this blog came on Thursday instead of Wednesday this week. It wasn’t because I was too busy or late or had nothing to write about (Playoffs). On this very day 21 years ago, Grady Charles Gallagher was born. (Lol at all of you that believed Charles is my middle name) Gosh, that is just unbelievable to think about. Just yesterday I was stepping into a old Ford Taurus by myself for the first time, only to get pulled over later that night. Let’s all hope that history does not repeat itself, especially because I have no intentions of driving anywhere. Yes, Grandma, do not worry, the library is only a short walk away.
Birthdays, are the days when folks get a little more swagger in their step; the day when they might actually smile and say, “Hello” when passing by; the day they go off for 12 of 15 from the arc in pick up ball (Mr. Ivey). It’s the one day of the year when your motto is, “Who’s gonna stop me, huh?” and that’s ok.
I was thinking, one’s birthday only comes once a year so I might as well blog about the subject. And with one birthday comes another year (hopefully) and there are more chances to do things! Here are five things I hope to have accomplished by my 22nd birthday (in order from most important to least important):
1. Watch Stephen Curry in person- obvi.
2. Win a golf tournament.
3. Get Paul a girlfriend- Haters hate. Winners win.
4. Attend some festivity at MLB All-Star weekend- It’s at Target Field in Minneapolis this summer. I’ve already looked into it and assuming I don’t win the lottery, my plan is to enter and win a radio contest to get two tickets. Easy enough.
5. Have an intelligent conversation via Twitter with someone I think is cool.
Maybe its not the bucket list that most would flaunt, but I only have 365 days, no money, and a brother that can’t hold a conversation without using the term “grind.” I should be makin’ movies.
Something I must bring up about my birthday, since it is in April, is that there has never been time to take a vacation or anything of that sort and you know, I understand; I’m cool with that. This brings me to my favorite birthday trip or “party” that I experienced. When I was in the 3rd grade, I got to choose eight or nine friends to pile up in both of our family cars; we went to the news station in Sioux City in which my uncle was head anchor for the evening news. Us being in third grade, we thought it was so awesome. We got to play with the green screen used for the weather and actually watched when they recorded a promo for the news later that night. How cool is that, eh? Now, looking back on Paul’s past birthday trips in which we have traveled to Wisconsin Dells several times, Twins and Brewers games, and all the way to Canton, Ohio. I think it’s pretty easy to tell who the family favorite is……. The worst part is that Paul actually complained about some of the stuff we did on those trips. HEY PAUL, how about we trek up to the local news station for a tour on your bday this year? Would you like that? Would ya?
I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes and gifts I’ve received throughout the years. I’ve been so blessed and I’m so thankful for all the great people I’m surrounded by.
Thanks for reading everyone! Enjoy April 24th! It only comes once a year!
