Women's soccer about to start conference action

As the seasons start to change and the air starts to chill you can hear the cheers from the stands rooting for the Buena Vista Women’s soccer team. One of the most promising women’s soccer teams in BVU’s recent history is already seven games into the season and sporting a 2-4-1 record.

The week consisted of two tough overtime road losses for the Beaver women. On Wednesday they lost 2-1 against Mt. Marty. Junior Dana Mefferd scored her first goal for the Beavers, but they could not seal the deal as Mt. Marty scored in the 99th minute.

The second game of the week again was a 2-1 loss in overtime. This time it was against Monmouth (Ill.) as Caroline Maher continued her phenomenal year for the Beavers in front of goal.

While the team has suffered two close losses, they haven’t lost sight of their goal. According to first year player, Lindsey Miles, the team’s goal is to “make it to the conference tournament and get as far as we can.”

Senior captain Claire Arganbright says, “We’re excited to see where this season goes.”

The team still has some time to sharpen up before conference play starts on September 30, when they will take on Luther at home during Homecoming weekend. After that, it’s a dead sprint to the conference tournament, where the women’s soccer team hopes to find themselves doing damage come late October.
