“Tattoo Tales” is an ongoing series that features Buena Vista University students’ tattoos and the stories behind them.
Sophomore Alec Sindelar has tattoos on his chest and his arm. The tattoo on his arm is of a family tree and features members of his family. He got it a month before he came to college.
“It’s my way of brining them to college and to the rest of my life with me,” Sindelar said.
Sindelar came up with the symbols on his own and the picture of the tree, with the tattoo artist placing them. He says the reactions to his tattoos are mostly people being surprised he was the “type of person to get a tattoo.”
“An aunt and an uncle who I am very close to at first were not very happy with it. They ended up being okay with it. They’re actually on the tree,” Sindelar said.
He got a new tattoo just under a month ago, on his arm. He says that one is just for him; it’s a picture he loves.
He takes a lot of time planning the tattoos; he had both planned for over a year.
