On Saturday, March 1, Buena Vista University’s (BVU) radio station KBVU is hosting a concert called #Replugged. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Students from BVU are going to be performing original and cover music.
KBVU did a concert in the Underground last semester that was entitled “Seamless.” The group Liberty Hall Collective is returning alongside other performers from this past J-term’s “How to be a Recording Star” concert. That concert was the final project for the “How to be a Recording Star” class.
KBVU’s Student Station Manager Annie Reiva loves to see these events come together.
“We are trying to be more recognizable on campus and started doing smaller events last semester. We did Seamless, which went really well. It didn’t have a huge turnout, but the goal was to have student talent perform. In J-term some of us from KBVU went to the ‘How to be a Recording Star’ concert. We noticed a lot of talent and wanted to give them another chance to perform,” Reiva said.
The concert has been organized differently than Seamless was. KBVU knew there were students that wanted to perform because of the “How to be a Recording Star” class and KBVU wanted to take advantage of those students’ interest and drive to perform.
“Bruce got a hold of the class roster from the J-term class and e-mailed them. The one’s that responded got a spot. We took J-term’s concert as the audition. Where last semester we held auditions,” Reiva said.
Reiva looks forward to the event and says that no matter how many people show up, the event is a great opportunity for students at BVU to see and be in a fun concert.
Freshman vocal performance and political science major William Krageschmidt has performed at both “Seamless” and the “How to be a Recording Star” concert. He loves to perform and has found BVU a great place to work on music. He likes to experiment with what he does, saying his style varies from alternative to what he mostly plays, folk.
“I’ll take any opportunity to perform, and this concert, the name is kind of a play on unplugged. And overall is a reiteration of earlier performances like Seamless and the Recording Star concerts,” Krageschmidt said.
He likes that there are many students on campus that are interested in music and that the tastes vary. It gives him a diverse audience.
“I like playing at BVU; it gives me a chance to try new things and have a positive environment. There also is an opportunity for feedback, which I like, a lot of ears that will give me their thoughts,“ Krageschmidt said.
There are many different types of artists set to perform at the event with music genres ranging from pop, rock, folk, rap, and more.
“You would be surprised by the amount of talent that exists on BVU’s campus, and this is a great opportunity to see that. You’ll be surprised, and you’ll certainly be entertained,” Krageschmidt said.
If you can’t go to the Underground this Saturday at 7 p.m., KBVU is also broadcasting the event live.
“If you haven’t heard the music that is out on campus, give it a listen, it’s really good stuff, “ Krageschmidt said.
