Name: Alec Sindelar
Year & Major: Sophomore, majoring in Marketing and Finance
Where do you serve and what inspires you to serve here? I serve as the Director of Volunteering for the Buena Vista Marketing Association. I accepted this position because it gives me a wonderful opportunity to volunteer several times throughout the semester. So far, as a group, we have participated in Habitat for Humanity, Children’s trick-or-treating, Chills and Thrills, and Adopt-a-Family. Personally, I went on a service trip over J-term and am working on a large charity fundraiser for the semester.
What’s your favorite part about service? My favorite part of service is how it is a positive influence on everyone involved. Volunteering just seems to have a way of bringing people together. It’s a chance to make someone else’s life better while simultaneously improving your own life. It’s a wonderful thing.
Service Quote: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” — Mahatma Gandhi
Advice for other volunteers: Just do it. No matter how small or big of a service it is, just dive right in and make a difference. It will be the best decision of your life.
