The Student Activities Board (SAB) at Buena Vista University (BVU) brings a variety of events to campus from concerts and vocal groups, to comedians. This year, SAB has been trying harder to coordinate with other groups on campus. On Monday, November 10, SAB brought three a cappella groups to perform on campus.
This event is especially unique because SAB brought an a cappella group from Minneapolis as well as two groups from BVU. It is important that SAB collaborated these groups because students are able to watch talent from somewhere else along with the talent we have on our own campus.
Junior Nicole Boysen explains why SAB is great for students at BVU and why this event was so special to her.
“SAB brings us great opportunities to perform in front of our peers. It allows us to show off our vocal capabilities,” Boysen said.
This year BVU has two new a cappella groups. One group is an all-female ensemble called Bella Voce. Bella Voce means beautiful voices. The other group is the all-men ensemble. This group is Arbeggibros.
“Music events on campus help anyone who is studying or performing music because it helps them to see what a professional ensemble looks like. It helps them see different ways their craft can be expressed. They are able to learn how to use their art before and after graduation,” Dr. Merrin Guice said.
With the groups being new this year, much of the BVU community is not aware that a cappella groups are on campus. SAB helps these groups become recognized. It is helpful to have such a large, well-known organization that allows for these smaller groups to work with. It opens up the community to the arts, and gives SAB the opportunity to show off the endless amount of talent that BVU has.
