With spring break quickly approaching, it’s easy to have let planning a great trip slip by with classes demanding all your attention. No worries, there is still plenty of time to put together some awesome last-minute plans:
• Pack up a car and road trip with your friends, plan out where you go each day and stay each night as you drive by (if you are an impulsive type of person).
• Book a stay-cation at a city in Iowa or a surrounding state. Explore Des Moines, Omaha, or the Twin Cities. These cities are often overlooked since they’re so close to home and not as “exotic” as Florida, but each city has hidden gems just waiting to be explored.
• Do you regret not applying for AWOL? Group together with your friends to complete a service project each day in your hometown. Go to the animal shelter, spring clean your church, or pick up the local park.
• Visit the tourist attractions in your hometown. Is there a museum or a famous coffee shop you’ve always driven by, but never gone in? I toured the Brucemore mansion back home in Cedar Rapids, and was told they rarely have local visitors come to their events! What do you have to rediscover in your backyard?
• Finish that craft or project you have been putting off. Girls, is there a craft on your Pinterest board you have always wanted to try, or all those meals you have been dying to make? Guys, what about that project car sitting in the back of the garage or that project your dad has been asking to work on?
• Make a change! Have you been too busy to start your new workout habits? Maybe you want to revamp your eating style. A whole week will give you a kick-start on making the change into a routine (which takes 21 days to establish).
• Learn a new skill. You’ll have time to spruce up your cooking skills or hit the driving range and improve your golf game. Now is the time to try out a new sport or hobby. Maybe it’s underwater basket weaving!
• Maybe the Midwest is still too cold to go swimming, but there are still plenty of things to do outside! Go hiking at a local trail, mudding with your friends, fish at the local lake, go for a scenic bike ride, spelunk at a nearby cave, or play your favorite sport at the local park.
• Reconnect with friends and family back home. If you are able to schedule plans each day with an old friend or relative, you can have a great time catching up and hanging out at your old stomping grounds.
• Speaking of old stomping grounds, maybe there is a high school teacher that was a big part of your life. Reach out and see if you could stop by your high school and hang out for a couple of class periods.
No matter how long you’ve procrastinated on making amazing spring break plans, all it takes is a little creativity to come up with something great. There’s something for every budget too! Have a fun and safe break, beavers!
