Vice presidential debate gets heated

Vice presidential debate gets heated

Meghan Harmening | Blogger

On the night of Oct. 11, 2012, we see yet again the weakness of the Obama/Biden team and the strength of Romney/Ryan. Vice President Biden, quite clearly, has very little idea what is going on in this election. VP Biden, do you actually believe that Iran has zero chance of creating a nuclear weapon? VP Biden, why are you so oblivious to the idea that Iran could become exponentially stronger with a nuclear weapon? We need to take action right now. We have a timeline and we need to stick to it. If Iran achieves hold of a nuclear weapon, and they use it against us, we have ourselves in a pickle – to say the least. It is not our duty as America to start a war to relieve Iran of their nuclear progress. However, it is our duty as America to protect our own.

Now, VP Biden, why are you grinning? Because you know that Congressman Ryan is kicking your butt at this debate? Because you know that he has more statistics and knowledge than you’ll ever have even though you’ve been in office for almost four years now?

It’s down to the issues again. Each campaign team has the same agenda with different means. Each wants to empower the middle class. But how? VP Biden claims that if Romney and Ryan are elected, the deficit, taxes, and insecurity will rise. But on what grounds? Obama and Biden have nothing left to fight with. Ryan gave statistics all night long that prove just how well their 5-point plan will work once in office. When President Obama was running in 2008, he said, “If you don’t have a good record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone to run from.” It’s quite clear that this is what it has come down to in the last few weeks before the election: the negative advertisements, the vague answers during debates, and the blame game. It’s all just tactics for the Obama/Biden ticket to make Romney/Ryan look like the bad guys.

It simply won’t work. It’s really quite a simple decision when you look at the debates alone. Neither President Obama nor VP Biden is able to really bring it to the table when it’s needed. President Obama had his chance in the past four years to “bring it”. It simply has not happened. The deficit was supposed to be cut in half in four years; instead, it’s been four one-trillion-dollar debts in a row. Instead of taxes being cut, they’ve been raised. This isn’t the type of president/vice-president we need in office. We need fresh faces with a fresh agenda.
