“Is that a salad fork or a dinner fork?”
“Is that a soup spoon?”
“Why is there so much silverware anyway?”
“Can I start eating yet?”
Buena Vista University’s (BVU) annual etiquette dinner is coming up! As young adults to soon be entering the professional world, it is important that students are ready for anything and everything, including business dinners. You may not think that this is going to be relevant to your future, but it is almost guaranteed that you will be required to attend at least one, and you don’t want to look sloppy because that will put a bad image on you and your employer.
Jeff Stocco, Career and Personal Development Director at BVU says this event is an opportunity for students to learn the ins and outs of proper dinning and how to feel more comfortable when meeting others in a social setting. Teresa Stuhr, Sodexo Catering Manager, hosts the etiquette dinner. She will lead you through a four-course meal while educating you on the art of fine dining.
“The Annual Etiquette Dinner is an opportunity for students to learn about networking and the social skills and etiquette associated with an interview or business meal or reception. There are many tips and techniques associated with successfully navigating these social settings, and they can help you feel more at ease when you are meeting others in a social setting related to work,” Stocco said.
Not only will you get a delicious four-course meal, you will get the opportunity to ask questions.
“We will have cards for students to jot down questions during the course of the meal, and they will be answered at the end of the program,” Stocco stated.
The Etiquette Dinner is set for November 13, 2014 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. In order to register for this event, go to the Office of Career and Personal Development and register no later than Monday November 10th. Space for this event is limited so sign up as soon as you can! The expected attire for this event is business or business casual.
