“Tattoo Tales” is an ongoing series that features Buena Vista University students’ tattoos and the stories behind them.
Junior Jenna Bremer has three tattoos, all of which she got her freshman year of college. Each tattoo represents her love for something specific, but they also have a special meaning to her.
“I get tattoos because I love them, but they also have a double meaning,” Bremer said.
She got her first tattoo on her wrist. The tattoo reads “always,” and it comes from the Harry Potter series. Bremer loves Harry Potter, as she grew up with it.
“It’s also more than that. I will always love my family, and I will always be there for them. It’s the same with my friends. I will always be there for them, even if we’re not technically as close as we were at one point,” Bremer said, “And I will always kind of respect other people’s beliefs and how they choose to live their lives.”
The next tattoo she got is on her foot, and it is a “Doctor Who” symbol and quote. The quote reads, “The oldest and most mighty race in the university. Looking down on the galaxies below. Sworn never to interfere only, to watch.”
“I love ‘Doctor Who,’ and the show kind of encompasses that everything in the universe is important. Even if you don’t believe that you are, you are,” Bremer said. “It’s like everything is important, and everything matters to someone.”
Her last tattoo is on her forearm, and it is a quote from Sherlock Holmes. The tattoo reads “Art in the blood is liable to take the strangest forms.” Her reasoning for this one comes from her being a creative person.
“I’ve always been a creative person, and I think when you are a more creative person, you tend to live your life differently than if you live your life more analytically,” Bremer said.
Each tattoo took time to plan out. She thought about the placement of each carefully because she wanted to be able to see her tattoos, but she also wanted to be able to hide them if needed.
“It’s all about me being able to see them and recognizing what they are while also being professional at the same time,” Bremer said.
Bremer is currently working on three more tattoos, and plans on getting them once she finds the time.
