Junior Jasey Zander is a three-time letter-winner for the Buena Vista University (BVU) women’s golf team and is currently working to improve and have her best season so far for her senior campaign that will start next fall.
Zander has set a personal goal this season and that is to be on the all-conference team, and also says the team’s goal is to place in the upper half of the conference.
“I feel that our team has continued to improve and definitely has a chance to be near the top next year,” Zander said.
Head golf coach, Mitch Brunick, has also set goals for his teams. Brunick wants his teams to succeed as best they can by improving their mindset and skills in the game. He also stated that he wants each player on his team to get better each and every day.
“To me, tournaments are there to show us what we need to work on to improve. When it comes time for the conference tournament, I would like all kinks to be eliminated and to be playing our best golf,” Brunick said.
Zander believes that one strength she brings to the golf team is being able to keep her composure while on the course. Rather than thinking on her last bad shot and getting upset she chooses to move on so that she is able to bounce back and make better shots later on in the round. Coach Brunick can also attest to Zanders strengths.
“I want Jasey to become the athlete she can be. I want to name her as captain next year to put more responsibility on her shoulders. It is also my goal for Jasey to finish in the top 10 in conference next year,” Brunick said.
The women’s golf team participates in tournaments in the spring, but their competitive season takes place in the fall. The weekend of April 4 and 5, Zander placed third at their tournament in Ankeny, Iowa. The Beavers wrapped up their spring season last weekend in Cedar Rapids.
