Buena Vista University (BVU) Student Senate and Student Activities Board (SAB) have collaborated to co-host a reception following the All Campus Christmas Dinner. On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Christmas Dinner will begin at 5 p.m. and end at approximately 7 p.m.

The Christmas Dinner includes the BVU Concert Choir singing a variety of songs including Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, and the Beaver Fight Song. There is also the lighting of the two large Christmas trees and continues with the faculty, staff, and administration serving the students the meals. The dinner usually concludes after individuals finish their meals and have taken photos with Buford T. Beaver, BVU’s mascot. However, this year it will end slightly different.

The Christmas Dinner is considered a tradition at BVU, and SAB and Student Senate wanted to add to the tradition by having a reception. Senate representative Austin Groth explained that SAB planned the event, and Student Senate will be helping run the event. The reception will begin in the Siebens Forum following the Christmas Dinner at 7 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m.

“With everyone already dressed up, it would be a perfect way to allow students to get a break from studying for finals and extend the night to a place where they could just simply enjoy the night with their friends!” SAB 2014 President Alexis Williams said.

“The reception will provide students with additional time to take pictures and socialize with friends,” Groth said.

Students are invited to relax and socialize with friends in the forum. There will be a holiday themed photo booth with props. There will also be hot chocolate, apple cider, and sparkling grape juice with candy canes as a light snack. Buford will also be making an appearance at the reception.
