On March 14, the Asian-American Pacific Islander Association (AAPIA) will host the annual World Dance Festival in Anderson Auditorium from 7-8 p.m. The festival focuses on bringing a variety of cultures to the spotlight by showcasing a culture through dance. The Office of Multicultural Engagement has run this event before, but this year, AAPIA will be in charge of holding this event.
Nou Yang is a board member for the AAPIA organization.
“It is a beginning step for students to be more cultural competent because in our careers, we are going to be working with different people who come from different backgrounds,” Yang said.
“AAPIA has been inactive for a period of time and is just starting to reactive,” Yang said, “We currently have only four to five members and still are trying to get our name out there.”
This will be the sixth year for the World Dance Festival, and Yang encourages students to not only attend the festival, but to also participate.
“We want everyone within the community, not just the students and those in the BVU community, to be aware of the different cultures surrounding them and to see how unique each and every culture is,” Yang said.
Those who plan on attending the show will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle drawing throughout the show, along with viewing unique dances including the Vietnamese and Bollywood dance.
