Dear Kyle,
With the new school year, I’m trying to explore new options for things on campus. But I don’t know where to start or where I should look. Can you help me out?
Sincerely,
Wanting a Fresh Start
Wanting a Fresh Start,
I think that’s great that you want to explore the many things around campus to see if there’s something new that you could get involved in, or explore something you didn’t know about in past years. The most important part about college, besides your grades, is your involvement in extra curricular activities. By asking your professors in your major area about activities that you can do to boost your résumé you can kill two birds with one stone by being involved but also giving you experience in your major. At the same time, you should also try to be involved in at least one activity outside of your major. I suggest this so you can diversify yourself to make yourself more marketable as you approach employment opportunities or graduate school. By diversifying your activities, you will also diversify your relationships on campus, which will help you be successful as you progress through college.
By asking your professors and fellow students, you can find out what groups and organizations there are on campus to see what you want to be a part of and engage in. Make sure you aren’t involved in too much, because after all grades should still be your priority.
Get involved, have fun and enjoy college.
Wishing You the Best,
Kyle
