Earlier this month, police arrested Davonte Johnson, a BVU freshman from Storm Lake, for possession of a controlled substance and booked him into the Buena Vista County jail on $1,000 bond. Storm Lake police also arrested Jackson Montgomery, a BVU freshman from Dekalb, Ill. in connection with Johnson’s arrest.
SLPD responded to a reported suspicious vehicle complaint around 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 15, following the vehicle to Buena Vista University.
Johnson was contacted by officers upon exiting the vehicle. Police say that Johnson was smoking a controlled substance while parked on a road in the county which corresponds to the reported suspicious vehicle complaint.
Police then seized marijuana from Johnson and took him into custody.
Police impounded the vehicle from the parking lot and continued on a search warrant of the vehicle locating marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.
The impounded vehicle belonged to Montgomery, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked on $1,000 bond.
The SLPD was assisted in the investigation of these cases by BVU Campus Security.
