Super Bowl 50 is here and both the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers are ready to play. The Broncos are 12 and 4 while the Panthers are 15 and 1. There has been a lot of talk about the Super Bowl and who everyone thinks will take the trophy. Our very own Buena Vista University (BVU) students Noah Paper and Nic Gibson have their guesses and suggestions for their favorite teams.
Sophomore Noah Paper, a Carolina fan, is betting everything with his team. He knows they will bring a fight and is excited for the game on Sunday.
“I’m pretty excited, considering they lost their last Super Bowl appearance in 2003. It’s been a while since I’ve had anything to cheer for,” Paper said.
Since the Carolina Panthers’ last appearance in 2003, the team has been rebuilding and would like to see a different outcome this year. The Denver Broncos would like to change their plans.
Senior Nic Gibson wants to see the Broncos take the trophy home. With the team behind Payton Manning, Gibson thinks they will be able to.
“In order for the Broncos to win the Super Bowl, the offense needs to convert on at least half of their drives and the defensive line needs to contain Cam Newton. If they can stop Cam Newton, they’ll stop the Panthers,” Gibson said. “The last time the Broncos faced the Panthers they beat them 36-14 so we’ll see if that can happen again.”
Almost every player in the NFL, and other sports, has their own pre game rituals. The fans are rarely any different.
Gibson has his own unique way of doing things, while Paper just wears his jersey.
“The only pregame ritual that I have is putting layers and layers of Broncos clothing on before the game. Throughout the game you could find me being very obnoxious and probably yelling at the television because you know, they can hear me,” Gibson said.
“I don’t really have any rituals. I just put on the Cam Newton jersey, sit in my chair, and hopefully watch my team win,” Paper said.
Every football fan has their team and every fan has their guesses on who will win and what the final score will be. For these boys, there’s nothing different.
Paper guesses: “27-17.”
Gibson guesses: “My score prediction is 24-20 Denver with the game being a huge defensive battle.”
Who will win the game? Nobody can really say for sure. What we do know is that both of these boys will be watching the game on Sunday at 5:30 pm. Will you be?
