Buena Vista University’s President Fred Moore will resign his position effective June 30, 2017.
Moore made the announcement to faculty and staff late this afternoon at a campus community meeting. Following the meeting, he released a statement via email to students. In the email, Moore explained the personal circumstances that prompted this decision.
Moore and his wife Susan will be moving to Florida in order to support and ensure the proper care of their son, Stephen. Stephen has autism and has been residing at a facility in Florida that specializes in caring for adults with autism.
In the email, Moore assures students that the Board of Trustees is already taking steps in the search for the next president. He writes, “The decision to leave BVU has been more than difficult; it has been gut-wrenching. I love this university and what it does for all of you and the broader community. Serving as President has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. I will always remember our time here fondly, but Susan and I must take the steps necessary to make sure our son receives the care that he needs and deserves.”
The Tack ONLINE will continue to cover this story. More details to come.
