The Student Activities Board (SAB) has been working hard to prepare for Buena Vista University’s 125th homecoming. Senior Haley Stevens has led the planning effort as SAB’s VP of Homecoming.
“I have been trying to bring back different traditions or things we know students have liked in the past, as well as try new things,” Stevens said.
One of the events from recent years that Stevens is excited to have return is the Paint Rave, which is being held Sunday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. An older tradition being brought back is the Spirit Banner Competition. For this event, each residence hall will be competing against each other in a banner design competition judged by BVU Alumni Board members. First, second and third places will be awarded. Stevens says students should check out the new activity, Eurobungy; a part bungee jumping, part trampoline activity.
“I actually had to go through a lot of logistics and lawyers, so it was a big step for us to take,” Stevens said.
During Homecoming week, students are given an Awesome Activities Raffle Punch Card (AARP Card). At each event, a SAB member punches the card. Punches in the card determines the amount of tickets students get to enter in the raffle. Stevens says this year’s raffle is going to be fantastic, with prizes including Twenty One Pilots concert tickets, a TV, a Keurig, and much more.
Homecoming kicks off with the paint rave on Sunday night.
