On Feb. 9, 2026, a new addition was added to Sodexo’s Underground called the Food Hive. Food Hive is a new convenient store on campus to bring you a bigger variety of food and convenience products to all students.
Ken Allen, general manager, and Jackie Cassaro, restaurant supervisor, for Sodexo were asked what type of products were to be expected in the Food Hive. They both explained it would feature various household and food items like medicine, laundry detergent, snacks, candies, warm or refrigerated foods and more.
Cassaro went into great detail about a new addition she believes the students will enjoy. “It’s a gelato machine, we’ll have a couple of different flavors of gelato available, and we’ll be showing students next week on how to use it,” Cassaro said.
For check out, there are a few payment options available. These methods include PayPal, Apple Pay, debit, credit and Beaver Bucks.

When both Allen and Cassaro were questioned about the purpose of adding the Food Hive to the Underground, Allen said, “It’s our partnership with BV and our journey of conversations about the apartments. We’ve had some struggles over the recent years with student athletes and anybody that stays on campus, international students, whoever doesn’t go home during the holidays, having access to some of the food items.”
On top of that, Allen and Cassaro plan on expanding this project even further than where it’s at now. Allen summed it up nicely with the phrase, “We’re starting small, and we can add to it.”
Sodexo is also looking for student feedback on what students want to see in the store. Students are the ones who get to vote on what they want to see on the shelves and the menu in both the Underground and Food Hive.
To vote, there is an email sent out by John Salazar once per semester to every student where they can find out more. All they have to do is pay attention to their email.
