More than 300 tickets to Buena Vista University’s (BVU) homecoming concert, Steel Magnolia, have been handed out to students and faculty since tickets have become available on Monday, Sept. 17.
Students have had mixed reactions to the announcement. Many students have said that they haven’t heard of the band. Senior computer science major Jon Kenkel says he does not plan on going to the concert.
“I’ve never heard of the band before, and none of my friends have expressed interest in it,” Kenkel said. “I’m not actually sure what type of music they’re using, but if it were something really popular that got others excited, I’d be all over it.”
Junior graphic design major Jen Dimig said she was expecting a bigger artist and hadn’t heard of the band until it was announced that they were coming.
“We didn’t have that concert [Beaver Bash] last year. I was expecting someone really big. Not like huge, huge but someone on the radio more often,” Dimig said. “I did some research and found out I’d never heard the songs before. It was catchy.”
Senior history and digital media major April Allen helped organize the concert.
“I hope all 800 seats of Shaeller Chapel are filled,” Allen said. “I also hope that people who don’t normally listen to country music can get a taste of something different and have a good time.”
