Espresso machine broken

Aaron Burns | News Co-Editor

EspressoMany Buena Vista University (BVU) students, faculty and staff seeking a caffeine fix lately have been disappointed to find that the Common Grounds coffee shop espresso machine is broken.

According to Sherry Wells, coffee shop manager, the machine has been down since Friday, February 1. After attempts to fix it in-house were unsuccessful, the machine had to be sent to Sioux Falls, SD for repairs, which is where it remains. The repair person who is working on the machine is backed up and has other universities’ machines to repair as well. Wells assured that the repairs are moving ahead though as quickly as they can.

“He has even worked over the weekend on it,” Wells said. “He’s really trying hard for you guys.”

Wells explained that some parts have had to be ordered for the machine, which makes it difficult to know when it will be back and functioning on campus.

“I can’t really say when it’s coming back, but it is,” she said.

Wells has been impressed with how well coffee shop visitors have responded to the bad news that the machine is gone.

“To be honest with you, the student body has been awesome,” she said. “Everybody has been really gracious.”

Wells thanks everyone for being so understanding. She and her staff have also gotten creative in meeting the coffee needs of customers.

“We’ve come to find we can do ‘poor man’s’ macchiato and just use brewed coffee. It’s iced, but it’s a little bit cheaper for them so they’re not spending all their Beaver Bucks up,” she said. “We’re just trying to trudge through this depressing time.”
