Men’s track and field captures two IIAC titles

IIAC+Champions

Courtney Van Haaften | Sports Co-Editor

On Saturday, March 1, the Buena Vista University (BVU) men’s track and field team took the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) titles in both the 4×200 relay and 4×400 relay. The team finished fifth overall.

The 4×200 relay team consists of Christian Cottingham, Seth Woodson, Ryan Eberly, and Peter Winterton. They ran the race in 1:30.91, almost a second faster than second place Loras College.

“We have been wanting to win for a couple years now, so that was really exciting for us,” Woodson said.

Woodson, Eberly, Winterton, and Garrett Woodson captured the 4×400 title with a time of 3:24.66. Second-place finisher, Wartburg College, was merely a half second behind.

The Beavers are now preparing for the NCAA National Qualifier. This event takes place on Saturday, March 8 in Stevens Point, Wisc.

“There will a lot of technical work leading up to the meet. We need to stay competitive,” Eberly said.

“I am most excited about getting the chance to try and qualify in more than one event. It is always good to qualify by yourself, but when the team has a chance too, it makes the experience even better,” Woodson said.

If any Beavers qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, they will travel to Lincoln, Neb. on March 15. The first meet for the outdoor season will take place on March 28.
