Each week, Student Senate President Caitlin Hoffman will summarize what happens during Student Senate meetings. This is a condensed version of the meeting minutes.
Caitlin Hoffman | Student Senate President
Hope you are all surviving your midterm week! Here’s a follow-up from our meeting on Thursday, March 13th. It was a meeting full of surprises – power going out and having to leave the forum due to a fire alarm – but we still discussed quite a few topics that I want to share with you.
We welcomed a visit from Ashley Farmer-Hanson and granted an allocation to Buenafication Day to aid in funding for the very exciting day and voted to offer a monetary donation to a non-profit organization for every person who participates in the Beaver Train during the Welcome ceremony. So please, join us for the event on Thursday May 1st! If you don’t have a group to participate with, please come along with senators to give back to our great community!
Our special events committee is looking to schedule a “Meet & Greet” with senators to help you as a student body learn more about us as senators, the work we do, and to give you a chance to ask us questions. Would you be interested in visiting with us? Look forward to this event at the end of the school year!
The Policy Advisory Committee has some new projects on their plate since they successfully passed the proposal for co-ed suites. They are currently working on obtaining gender-neutral bathrooms campus-wide. We’ll keep you updated on where this proposal takes us. Secondly, they are still continuing their good work on reshaping the Beaver’s Creed. Do you all know the Creed? Do you remember signing your name to abide by it? Our goal is to be sure that students know and can recite it as a BV Mantra. We are eager to share the work they’ve done and will continue to do.
Our proposals are still going well. The Underground committee loved your feedback on the survey you completed. This information has helped us better understand that you as students want a cleaned up version of the currently existing Underground. You all agree with us that it needs a remodel but would like us to keep its general purpose and set-up! Big thanks to the few students who came out for our open forum and provided input on our current proposal idea. Stay tuned for more information!
Send us a Facebook message, give us a shout-out on Twitter, talk to one of your senators and let us know what you think about anything we are working on or talking about. Or if you’d like to see us talking about something, we’d be happy to accommodate you!
As always, we encourage you to visit our Thursday meetings in Siebens Forum Room 1 at 6:00 p.m. We also invite you to like our Facebook page and to follow our Twitter, @BVUSenate to get more updates. You can access our meeting minutes and agendas on our webpage.
