Have you ever had that band that has absolutely amazing music but you want nothing more than to keep them all to yourself? You want to be the only one to appreciate their music and know every lyric to every song. That’s Icarus Account for me. When I saw that they were going to be on campus, I about died… in a couple ways. First, I was so excited because they were a band I knew and loved for a long time. Before many people even knew about them. Then I was sad because I had to share this great music with others and there was still a part of me that wanted to keep them all to myself. I texted my sister because I knew that she would share in my excitement and be as happy and disappointed as I was. Happy and disappointed? Yes, this is what I’m telling you. Nonetheless, I was ecstatic to see them live.
The Sunday before midterms finally rolled around and instead of dreading the upcoming week, I was excited for the day. Icarus Account was here as promised in The Underground and let me just say, it was nothing shy of everything I hoped. They were some of the most enjoyable guys to sing along with and talk with between sets. They sang covers from artists like Jason Mraz, Ed Sheeran and Matt Nathanson and added in some of their own music, new and old. Even songs that have yet to be released (yes, I fan-girled a little because a band I loved was playing music that hasn’t even be released to the general public yet and here we were listening to it). I was fully consumed in every song they sang. Everything was perfect down to the brick walls and cement floor that The Underground is furnished with. It was like experiencing that low-key but incredibly talented band in a small bar somewhere and falling in love with their music. As I listened to them live, it was like experiencing their music for the first time again and I couldn’t help but do exactly that; fall in love all over again.
During both sets, I went through so many different emotions. One minute I was clapping along to their upbeat tempo and the next I was swooning over a slow love song. Then once again I was laughing at a joke they cracked before their next song. I was trying desperately to take in every moment and everything around me as they played before the night was over.
I shot picture after picture which hardly captured their energy, character or the setting in which they played. If you were there and experienced their unique, charismatic personalities you’ll agree that my pictures do not do them justice.
This is one experience that will go down in the books for me and I’m hoping those that came enjoyed them as much as I did. I guess if I have to share my not-so-secret band, I can do so with the rest of BVU. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience in which to share them.
