Freshman Lexi Fisher, a starting guard for the women’s Buena Vista University (BVU) basketball team, had an outstanding season with an impressive scoring average which helped lead the team to a 13-11 record on the season.
Fisher averaged 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Fisher had the second-best scoring average for the women’s basketball team and also ranked second on the team with 35 made three-point shots. During her first season playing at BVU, Fischer was named MVP of the Buena Vista Classic Tournament, which was held on Nov. 23 and 24, 2012.
Fisher started playing the game of basketball in fourth grade.
“I’m a very competitive person, and that is where most of my motivation comes from, but also being part of a team and knowing we always have each other’s back,” Fisher said.
“Lexi has great athletic ability; she brings quickness to our team. She has been a great scorer for us throughout the season with her quick release of shooting, and overall, she is a smart player,” BVU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Janet Berry said. “In the next couple of years, Lexi will continue to get better and better.”
Fisher’s favorite memory of this basketball season was the winning streak the Beavers had.
“When the team started winning game after game this season, the feeling I had was something I will never forget,” she said. “That is my favorite part of the game is when we are winning; it makes the game more exciting.”
Fisher offered advice for freshmen who will be joining the team next year. “Don’t panic, stay calm, and just play the game of basketball.”
Fisher has had a great season along with the rest of the BVU women’s basketball team. The women’s basketball team wrapped up their season with a 69-66 victory over Coe on Feb. 16th.
