On Sunday, Oct. 9, Adventure Leadership Program Scholars (ALPS) went trail riding at Beyond the Cross Ranch in Auburn, Iowa. Two chaperones took nine students on the trip. They arrived around 1:30 p.m. and started getting their assigned horses soon after. Most riders didn’t have much experience with horseback riding, but the ranch helped make everything go smoothly. The riders were given basic safety procedures, and then the trail ride started. The riders enjoyed the country scenery the trails offered and some even got to trot and canter around occasionally. The trail ride lasted for two and half hours and was followed by a camp fire with s’mores and hot dogs.
“I think that [the trail ride] went perfectly,” ALPS leader Kristina Campbell said. “I do believe that this is something that ALPS can and will continue to do in the future.”
The students who went enjoyed the day and mentioned it being a trip that they won’t forget. ALPS has a few more trips coming up this semester for students to join in on. Students can check the BVU website to keep updated on these trips.
