The Buena Vista University (BVU) men’s tennis team was home last Saturday for an Iowa Conference match against Central College. Although the matches were close, the Beavers lost with a score of 8-1.
Central won all of doubles play by only a combined five points, while three of the singles matches went into a third set tie breaker. Junior Dillon Nevius was the lone winner for the Beavers.
“I thought we played very well in the meet Saturday. Contrary to the score, we were right up with them, but we just couldn’t finish. We need to continually work on our tiebreaker mentality to help us capture those wins,” Nevius said.
Head coach, Kevin McCadams agrees.
“Though we lost 8-1, the match could have gone either way as scores indicate. Most of our matches were close with us winning one out of three tiebreakers that could have gone in our favor,” McCadams said.
The Beavers hold a record of 7-5 overall, 3-2 in the Iowa Conference. They currently hold a spot in the conference tournament, which takes place in early May, for the first time in many years. They are back in action this Saturday, April 20, in Storm Lake against Simpson College, starting at 11:30 a.m. Another home match follows on Sunday, April 21, against Luther College at 1 p.m.
