Glow volleyball provides fun recreation for students

Courtney Van Haaften | Sports Co-Editor

On Sunday, April 28, the Resident Advisors (RAs) from the Buena Vista University (BVU) suites held an outdoor glow volleyball event to provide a chance for people on campus to hang out, be competitive, and have some fun as the end of the school year draws closer.

The idea to host a glow volleyball tournament came from all the RAs in various suites to fulfill their RA obligations. In order to make this event successful, they had to advertise it throughout campus, buy food and other refreshments to provide to the participants, find people to help with line judging and score keeping, and purchase the materials in order to make everything glow.

“The atmosphere was very laid back. People loved painting their bodies with glow paint, blowing glow in the dark bubbles, and wearing various glow sticks,” senior Chelsea Clayton said.

There were six teams that participated, each team with 7-9 players. It was a single-elimination tournament, and the teams played best two out of three. The first two games were played to 15, and if need be, the third was played to ten.

“It was a lot of fun and it gave me a chance to spend time with friends and have some good laughs while we were at it,” freshman Austin Demers said.

The P-Dub Minions, the group of RAs in Pierce and White Halls, ended up winning the tournament. They received a bag of candy and Gatorade for their accomplishment.

“Overall, we just wanted to provide residents the opportunity to take a break from classes and have fun with other residents and their RAs in a friendly, safe environment,” Clayton said.
