The Shoes for Sports campaign, formed and led by senior Sports Management major Jared Bruce, wrapped up Friday, May 10 with a total donation of 81 pairs of athletic shoes.
Shoes for Sports was a public service project created to raise athletic shoes and equipment for athletes in the Storm Lake area whose families aren’t in a position to buy new athletic equipment.
The campaign took place over a two-week period, which started Monday, April 29. Local business, Brown’s Shoe Fit, partnered with the campaign by giving 10 percent off coupons to all those who dropped off athletic equipment in their store.
The athletic shoes came from drop-off sites in Storm Lake and the surrounding communities. Eight pairs of shoes came from Alta-Aurelia, 22 from Brown’s Shoe Fit, three from Storm Lake Public, and 48 from Buena Vista University.
Athletic shoes will be distributed to the communities according to need.
