Womens golf competes at Wartburg College Fall Invite

Maggie Ramold | Assistant Sports Editor

The Buena Vista University (BVU) women’s golf team took to the course on Saturday and Sunday as they competed in the Wartburg College Fall Invite at Centennial Oaks in Waverly, Iowa. The Beavers finished 13th with an overall score of 747.

Junior Jasey Zander led the Beavers with a tie for 49th. Zander posted an opening round 93 and improved on Sunday with an 87. Junior Megan Myers was two strokes behind Zander. Myers opened strong with an 89 and finished Sunday with a 93 to finish with a tie for 52nd.

“The team overall finished better on Sunday because we were more accustomed to the course. I felt more confident with my play on Sunday because I knew there were things from Saturday that I needed to change in order to produce a better score,” Zander said.

Seniors Megan Sweeney and Nora Seda also improved on Sunday to help the Beavers. Seda’s six-stroke difference from Saturday to Sunday helped the team finish five strokes better on Sunday.

“Our team has shown improvement from the Mount Mercy tournament, and I know that if we continue to work hard, we will keep improving and play well in the conference tournament. We have a great group of girls, and I am excited to see all of our hard work pay off,” Sweeney said.

The Beavers will head to Northfield, Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 14 to take part in the Midwest Classic.
