BVU women’s golf finishes 6th in the conference

BVU womens golf finishes 6th in the conference

Ashley Lage | Staff Writer

For the past two weekends, the Buena Vista University (BVU) women’s golf team has participated in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) golf tournament. The first weekend, Sept. 27 and 28, the team played in Cedar Falls. The results of the first two rounds led to where they started weekend two on Oct. 4 and 5 in Iowa City.

The first two rounds allowed the Beavers to find themselves in sixth place, sitting 24 strokes back behind Coe in fifth. Coach Mitch Brunick hoped to catch Coe for fifth place this past weekend.

Due to inclement weather, the course was pretty wet and teams were delayed for tee times, but the Beavers ended up finishing sixth with Wartburg taking the team title. Junior Jasey Zander shot a 94 in her final round to capture 24th place overall.

“I feel as though the team has made vast improvements over the year. We placed higher overall in conference this year, and I believe it is because of our hard work throughout preseason and during season. I can’t wait to see what our spring season will bring, ” Zander said.

One highlight of the tournament for the Beavers was Nora Seda shooting her lowest collegiate round of golf with an 89. Other highlights of the season included three lowest career rounds for Megan Myers, Hannah Zinn, and Elizabeth Kim, with scores of 89, 97, and 98 respectively.

This tournament wrapped up the fall season for the Beavers. The team has two seniors, Nora Seda and Megan Sweeney, who played their final fall seasons.

“With the off-season now here, I am looking forward to watching the improvements that the players make. We will be working on the swing and doing some workouts in order to help us become more consistent,” Brunick said.

The women’s golf team will continue playing again this spring and look forward to pushing themselves to becoming better each day.

“I am very proud of what we have accomplished this fall and I am continuously looking forward to the future seasons and achievements,” Brunick said.
