The Buena Vista University (BVU) volleyball team currently sits at a record of 16-10 (1-5) which gives the program its first winning season since 2005.
The Beavers play tonight, Oct. 30 at Luther College and are looking for their second Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) victory of the season. This year’s team includes many new faces that have continually been improving in order to keep building upon their current successes.
“The success of the team this year comes from a combination of three factors: great defense, talented freshmen and transfers, and good team chemistry,” Head Coach Lori Slight said.
Along with a cumulating a winning record, there have been several highlights so far this season, including earning two IIAC Defensive Player of the Week awards given to juniors Shelby Wiederhoeft and Taylor Salisbury.
Coach Slight is very impressed with the team’s hard work and dedication to getting better. She applauds the team’s ability to show improvement in all categories and areas of the game.
The Beavers close out their conference season against the Norse tonight, and then will travel to St. Peter, MN this weekend to take on Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Superior.
In order to keep up the winning mentality, the Beavers will be working extremely hard in the off-season. This season serves as a preview as what is to come for Beaver Volleyball.
“Recruiting, lots of lifting, and a focused spring practice season will help us take another step forward with the program,” Slight said.
