The Buena Vista University (BVU) football team took the field on Saturday for Parents’ Day against Loras College to capture their first win of the season 34-0.

The Beavers put the first points up on the board early in the first quarter with senior quarterback Bobby Brown’s 35-yard pass to sophomore receiver Jalen Henningsen. Freshman place kicker Tyler Stolen added a 23-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter to give the Beavers a 10-0 lead going into the second quarter.

BVU continued to execute on the offensive side of the ball in the second quarter as Brown connected with Henningsen again with a 37-yard touchdown pass and Stolen adding a 44-yard field goal to give the Beavers a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Sophomore running back Cody Cole scored his first two career rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Beavers would hold on to the shutout against the Duhawks, 34-0.

Cole finished the day with 131 rushing yards, giving the Beavers’ their first 100-yard rushing performance of the year. Brown completed 13 out of 25 pass attempts and matched his career-high with his 11th touchdown pass of the year.

Defensively, the Beavers held the Duhawks to 139 yards of total offense. Senior Mason Nielsen lead the team with 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles. Junior Matt Schmidt added two sacks on the day.

The BVU football team will be on the road next Saturday, November 2nd for an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) contest against Luther College in Decorah starting at 1:00 pm.
