Who’s who in Beaver sports: Malarie Gilley

Whos who in Beaver sports: Malarie Gilley

Chelsea Gubbels | Staff Writer

Malarie Gilley has started off her senior year basketball campaign strong by tallying a team high of 17 points and 11 rebounds during Buena Vista University women’s basketball’s second game against Cornell College on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Mt. Vernon, IA.

Malarie is a senior biology major from Grand Junction, Iowa. She enjoys going home to spend time with her family and going shopping. After graduation this May, she plans to pursue her education as a physician’s assistant.

Being a part of the women’s basketball team has been a solid part of Malarie’s college experience. She credited her positive basketball and school careers to her teammates and friends and had only admirable things to say about them.

“The sisters and life-long friends that I have gained from my four years at Buena Vista are irreplaceable and without a doubt the best part of being on this team,” Gilley said.

Her goal for this season is to be a team player and to take her team to the conference tournament.

“A personal goal for me would be to play consistently throughout the year and play whatever role the team needs me to on any given night, whether it being scoring, rebounding or just being a solid leader. I think our team will win a lot of games this season. We played really well this past weekend against two ranked opponents, so I look to be top three in the conference this year,” Gilley said.

The Beavers are currently 0-2 and will be back in action this Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Beth Baker Tip-off Tournament in Wheaton, Illinois.
