The Buena Vista University (BVU) men’s cross country team ended their 2013 season in Northfield, MN at the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 16. The team placed 22nd out of 26 teams.

Freshman John Surber was the second place finisher for the Beavers and placed 96th out of 181 runners with a time of 27:36.37.

“I thought it went well. The team ran strong and did what we could. There was good weather and a nice course, and the pace was quick and the competition was great,” Surber said.

The first place finisher for the team was junior Alex Lamp who finished 89th with a time of 27:26.17. The rest of the scorers for the Beavers include sophomore Andrew Laird (28:14.07), freshman Steven Smith, and sophomore Brady Hannula.

“We had one of our best team races we’ve had in this program for a few years now. So overall, I think our team finished off on a strong note,” Lamp said.

The team is looking to improve in the off-season and continue working towards taking time off of their respective times by building up mileage and following a specific workout plan.

“The goal is to work on putting in quality miles and work for the rest of the year, through summer, right up to day one of practice,” Surber said.
