Both the women and men’s basketball teams won in a thrilling fashion tonight in the first round of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The 6th-ranked women upset the 3rd-ranked Dubuque Spartans with a score of 63-59. The 4th-ranked men beat the 5th-ranked Wartburg Knights 85-83.
Leading scorers for the women were senior Susan Kies and sophomore Lexi Fisher with 23 and 15 points, respectively. Junior Cole Darrow led the men with 28 points and sophomore Nick Weubker finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The women move on to play this Thursday, Feb. 27 at 2nd-ranked Coe College. The Beaver men will play the top-ranked Central Dutch in Pella. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
