The Buena Vista University (BVU) football team suffered a tough 33-13 loss to Coe College to end their season.

The Beavers scored the first points of the game, with a 5-yard run by senior quarterback Bobby Brown. After that Coe took over the momentum of the game while the Beavers struggled to find offensive force.

Offensively, junior Ben Seitz led BVU with nine catches for 86 yards. Senior Dylan Barrett carried the ball 18 times for 70 yards.

Defensively, senior Austin Gibbs led with the game-high 11 tackles.

“We came up short of our pre-season goals. When you put the time and effort into a season like our players did, it’s frustrating not to perform better down the stretch. We played with great effort, we just didn’t make many plays when we had chances this last week,” head coach Jay Anderson said.

The Beavers wrapped up the season 5-5 overall and 4-3 IIAC. This leaves them at third in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC).

It was also the last game for 14 BVU seniors, who have been apart of the teams who have finished top three in the conference in their past three years.

“First of all, these seniors are a great group of young men. I have enjoyed being around them every day. They have been a big part of this program for four years. They worked to improve every day in-season and out,” Anderson said.

This season was nothing short of historic for the Beavers. Several records were broken over the season by the seniors.

“My favorite memory would be just being able to watch Dylan, Gunner, Cave, and Ben have memorable, record breaking seasons, some of the best performances that BVU has ever had, and all these guys did it in the same season. I’m really going to miss being able to take the field with some of my best friends,” Brown said.

The Beavers are already gearing up for a tough offseason.

“We need to develop physically and especially in the area of team speed. The returners will step into new leadership roles and start to build for 2015,” Anderson said.
