The Buena Vista University’s (BVU) women’s basketball team has opened up their 2014-15 season with a great start having a 3-2 overall record. The Beavers traveled to St. Peter, Minnesota opening weekend coming out with two wins over Martin Luther and Crown. They kept their win streak rolling at their home opener against Bethany Luther. The Beavers then fell the next weekend against St. Thomas and Bethel.
The team is working with an entirely new offense this season, giving their opponents something new to see.
“In practice we’ve really had to help each other learn and push each other to make us all better. In games, we’ve been working together and have been moving the ball around. We have a lot of different ways we can score, and I think that has helped us be successful so far,” senior guard Lexi Fisher said.
Head coach Janet Barry has been proud of her team so far this season but sees room for improvement.
“We need to continue to work on being consistent shooting the basketball. Our defense has improved, but we need to work on our rebounding,” Barry said.
The lady Beavers believe strongly in staying together as a team and working hard in every practice to fight towards their overall goals of being conference champions and making a run in the national tournament.
The Beavers will host the BVU Classic over Thanksgiving break, beginning this Friday, Nov. 28. They will open up conference play after the holidays against the Duhawks of Loras in Dubuque on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 6:00 p.m.
