The Buena Vista University (BVU) wrestling team picked up wins from senior Seth Shatto and sophomore Tyler Puls, but it wasn’t enough as the Beavers were defeated by 16th-ranked Luther College 41-6 last Friday night, Feb. 13 .

Luther won the first seven matches of the dual and built a 35-0 lead before Shatto got the Beavers on the scoreboard with a 4-2 decision over Tristian Zurfluh at 157 pounds.

Puls gave the Beavers back-to-back wins with a 6-5 victory over Javier Reyes at 165 pounds, but that was all the Beavers were able to manage against the Norse.

“Seth Shatto and Tyler Puls wrestled strong matches. They both won in a style and a situation that they probably would not have earlier this season. That is very encouraging to see entering the postseason,” first year Head Coach Jeff Breese said.

The Beavers finished the regular season 3-14 (0-7 IIAC). They will return to the mat Saturday, Feb. 28 for the NCAA Regional Tournament hosted in Dubuque.
