The Buena Vista University (BVU) men’s basketball team secured an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) title last night at the University of Dubuque. The final score in favor of the Beavers was 94-80. With this win, the Beavers also secure their home court in Siebens Fieldhouse for each game in the upcoming Iowa Conference tournament.

The Beavers shot an impressive 50.8% from the field on the night, including 12-of-26 from the three point line. Sophomore Kennedy Drey and junior Nick Clark each finished with 26 points, and senior Cole Darrow ended the night with 23. Drey also led the team in rebounding with 11 boards, making that his ninth double-double this season. Senior Alex Savage led the Beavers in the assists category with five.

This conference title is the second for the Beavers in the last three years, and the ninth overall title under head coach Brian Van Haaften. With the win, the team moves to 18-6 overall and 11-2 in the Iowa Conference

“We played great tonight. We played like a family and were composed. It was one of the best team performances I have had a team have in a long time,” Van Haaften said. “We’ll enjoy it for a day and get back to our next game.”

The Beavers head to Cedar Rapids this Saturday for their last regular season conference game against Coe College. After the weekend, the final conference standings will be set and the pairings for the upcoming Iowa Conference tournament will be decided.
