The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships took place this past weekend March 13-14, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The Buena Vista University (BVU) track and field team had one representative at the meet, and that was senior, Seth Woodson, who competed in the 800m run.
Woodson has had one of his best seasons here at BVU, and in honor of that, he became the program’s first indoor All-American since 2009. He also had the highest indoor finish for the 800m, placing 4th. Former Head Coach, Jeff Brennan, placed 5th back in 2001.
“I’ve been telling him [Seth] since we first met last May that he has all of the tools to become an All-American, he just needs to continue to work hard and stay confident,” Head Coach Ryan Schroeder said.
Woodson placed 6th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:53.43. To make it into the finals, he either had to be one of the top two from each of the heats or one of the next best four final times. After making the finals, Woodson ran a time of 1:54.81, running a bit slower, but still finishing 4th in the country.
With the outdoor season approaching quickly, Woodson wants to be on top of his game.
“I feel good about my finish, but I felt like I could have given a little bit more. I am not content with the outcome so it will be good motivation heading into the outdoor season,” Woodson said.
After being named All-American and placing high at the National Indoor meet, Woodson still has goals he wants to accomplish in the remainder of his career.
“My expectations for outdoor [season] are to be at the national meet again and be an outdoor All-American as well. My goal is to be top 3 at this one, though. I also want to take the outdoor 800m title at the conference meet,” Woodson said.
Woodson, along with his track and field teammates, will be gearing up for their first outdoor meet taking place April 2-3 at the Wartburg Outdoor Select in Waverly.
