The Buena Vista University (BVU) men’s tennis team lost a tough 8-1 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) match against the 19th-ranked Norse of Luther College on Tuesday, Apr. 14. This advanced the Norse to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in the Iowa Conference. BVU now stands 2-13 overall and 0-4 in the IIAC.

BVU picked up a lone win in the number four singles spot from senior, Kyle Weeden. This was Weeden’s fifth singles win.

“It was nice to get a singles win against Luther, one of the top teams in the conference,” Weeden said.

Weeden knew going into the match it would be a tough one with Luther College having several top players in the conference. Although Weeden enjoyed this singles match win, he is working on getting himself focused for the upcoming weekend match against conference opponents Loras College and the University of Dubuque.

Head coach Rick Halverson also knew going into Tuesday’s match would be challenging. He said there are still several things that need to be tightened up to have improved results going into the next two weeks of matches.

“We just need to keep improving as a team this weekend and focus on playing solid tennis and not trying to be perfect. If we play within ourselves, the guys have a great shot to come out of the weekend undefeated,” Halverson said.

The Beavers will continue play this Saturday, April 18, against Loras College and the University of Dubuque beginning at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
