Emily Leighton | Staff Writer

Senior track athlete Sydney Crnkovich is a Physical Education major with a minor in Health from Woodward Granger High School. Crnkovich has participated on the track team since her freshman year here at Buena Vista University (BVU).

Since participating on this team since her freshman year, Crnkovich has learned many things and made some amazing goals for herself.

“I ended indoor with my lifetime personal record in the open 400m, dropped four seconds in two weeks, my goal is keep that up and hopefully start seeing the change,” Crnkovich said.

She has also met lifelong friends and built a connection with her teammates and coaches.

“At the end of the day, it’s so nice coming to practice to see “my family”. I am going to miss all of my teammates because they make me a better person every day I get to work with them, not only mentally but physically. They truly are a blessing to say the least,” Crnkovich said.

Head Coach Ryan Schroeder had some nice things to say about Crnkovich and her ways with this team.

“Syd brings a lot of energy every day and she’s the one that you can always count on to put a smile on your face. She’s a great athlete to have on the team because she’s going to work hard but also try to lighten the mood a little,” Schroeder said.

Even though Crnkovich is leaving after this year, she still believes in this team and knows they will do great things to come.

“Team, this is the time you’ve all been waiting for, peace and quiet (only because I never stop talking). I want you all to trust in your training and most of all believe in yourself. Use each other to make one another stronger, compete a little, raise your standards,” Crnkovich said.

Crnkovich had some touching words for her teammates to remember for the years to come.

“When school gets tough and you think that you can’t keep going, know that during track practice all that stress will temporarily go away. Our team is so supportive, they’ll remind you how to keep your head up.”

Thank you to Crnkovich and Coach Schroeder for helping this Beaver team prosper and grow. You will both be missed by the team and the BVU community.
